First Miracle For Canonization Of Blessed Carlo Acutis

First Miracle for Canonization of Blessed Carlo Acutis

Relics of Blessed Carlo Acutis Not Meeting Canonical Requirements

Cardinal Marcello Semeraro met with Pope Francis to discuss the issue

Via Ariosto 21 - 20145 Milano - Italia, May 23, 2024 - Pope Francis has recognized the second miracle needed for the canonization of Italian Blessed Carlo Acutis. However, the process has been delayed due to concerns over the authenticity of some relics of Blessed Acutis.

Several reports have been received indicating that some relics of Blessed Carlo Acutis do not meet the canonical requirements. As a result, Cardinal Marcello Semeraro, Prefect of the Dicastery for the Causes of Saints, met with Pope Francis on Thursday to discuss the issue.

Cardinal Semeraro said that the Pope is "very concerned" about the reports and has asked the Dicastery to investigate the matter thoroughly. He added that the investigation will take some time, and he could not say when it would be completed.

The canonization process for Blessed Carlo Acutis has been ongoing since 2013. He was declared "venerable" by Pope Francis in 2018, and a first miracle was recognized in 2020. The recognition of a second miracle is the final step in the canonization process.

Blessed Carlo Acutis was born in London in 1991. He was diagnosed with leukemia in 2006 and died in 2007 at the age of 15. He was known for his deep faith and his love of the Eucharist. He was also a talented computer programmer and created a website to document Eucharistic miracles.
