Slovakias Prime Minister Eduard Heger Resigns, Robert Fico Appointed as Caretaker

Eduard Heger, the Prime Minister of Slovakia, has submitted his resignation following a political crisis within the ruling coalition. President Zuzana Caputova has appointed Robert Fico, the former Prime Minister, as the head of a caretaker government until a new government can be formed.

The political crisis in Slovakia has been ongoing for several months, with Heger's coalition facing a vote of no-confidence in parliament. The opposition, led by Fico's party, has criticized the government's handling of the economy, the COVID-19 pandemic, and corruption allegations.

Fico is a controversial figure in Slovak politics. He served as Prime Minister from 2006 to 2018, and his government was accused of corruption and authoritarianism. In 2018, he resigned after protests erupted over the murder of journalist Jan Kuciak.

The appointment of Fico as caretaker Prime Minister has raised concerns among some sectors of Slovak society. They fear that he will use his position to consolidate his power and undermine the independence of the judiciary.
